God” on January 1. This is a 24-lecture course in the Great Courses series,
presented by Dr. Bart Ehrman (James A. Gray Distinguished Professor at UNC
Chapel Hill, M.Div. and Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary). The
course covers the transformation of Jesus from an “itinerant Jewish preacher
who got on the wrong side of the law and was convicted of treason” to Lord
God by the Council of Nicea in 325 AD. Dr. Ehrman points out there are few
questions in the entire history of civilization as important as this one:
had it not happened, Christianity would be a minor, forgotten sect of
Judaism, and the Roman Empire would never have adopted Christian beliefs and
ways. Accordingly, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, and
modernity as we know it would simply never have transpired.
