“The purpose of Presbyterian Men is to promote the Kingdom of God worldwide by encouraging men to serve Jesus Christ in the work of the church and to follow him in the vocations of life.” This is the mission statement of the National Council of Presbyterian Men, Presbyterian Church (USA), from which the Parkway Men’s group received its charter in November 1995.
All men of Parkway Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem are invited to attend the monthly dinners and meetings. They are currently held on Monday Nights at 5:45 PM at a local restaurant. There is always great food and fellowship. The evening activities usually last about 1 and half hours.
The men’s organization work tirelessly to financially support youth attendance at camps, annual youth summer mission trips and the periodic Haiti mission trips. The youth participate in various spiritual and manuel labor activities to promote their servant hood. Haiti trips are focused on continual work done by CODEP on the reforestation of the land, providing self-sufficient farming and seeing that various much needed medical needs are attended to.
This group has also been very supportive of the “Local Veterans Home” in Winston-Salem. This home provides support to the many Veterans that find themselves homeless and hopeless by providing them with a place to stay, life skills training and encouragement. The Veterans are provided with needed supplies to setup a new residence and involvement within the local community.
The “Men Of The Church” love to cook. They have been called upon many times to prepare meals for various events and the community. The guys have held an annual BBQ in November with all the fixins to raise money for the many financial efforts this group supports. The group will now focus on other fund raising events such as Spaghetti Dinners, the annual Pancake Breakfast in January and other periodic cooking events. Over the past several years the Men of the Church have purchased a new cook stove and griddle for the Fellowship Hall and a new cook stove and refrigerator which is used in the Multi-Purpose kitchen. The men have been called upon several times to cook hamburgers and hotdogs and other special event meals for the church congregation. The goal of the Men of the Church is to help the congregation be a Servant Church and to provide some needed financial support on special projects.
